Each LED has a tiny controller; one data wire carries a bitstream that sets every pixel’s colour.
WS2812 timing is strict (~800 kbps). 5 V pixels; 3.3 V data often works but a level shifter is safer. Current ≈ 60 mA per LED at full white — rings need a real 5 V supply. In the classroom, treat WS2812 / NeoPixel LED Ring 12/16 as a beginner part using Single-wire data. Typical India street price is about ₹80–₹220. Always verify voltage and pin labels on your exact module — silk screens vary across clones. Start with a datasheet or trusted learn guide, power the part correctly, share GND with the MCU, and test with a simple blink/read sketch before building the full project. Measure voltages with a multimeter when something fails, and keep actuator current off the MCU regulator.
FastLED or Adafruit_NeoPixel; set brightness low first. Data → DIN, 5 V & GND from PSU.
